I read to escape and to learn. I like science fiction, historical fiction, mysteries, thrillers and adventure stories.
I was not expecting to like this book and the main character as much as I did. I was expecting a literary version of a romantic comedy and that's not what this book is about at all. Mental illness, depression, and dysfunctional family relationships - sounds like a pretty depressing book eh? But, the protagonist named Pat Peoples, (even his name makes me smile), had the most optimistic outlook which I found very appealing and being inside his head as the narrator was pretty interesting. This book is both funny and sad. The main character's unique voice and the interesting secondary characters made it a pleasure to read. Thanks to my friend Joy for recommending it
